Overview:

Mark Csernica Comments on the recent history and announcements concerning iPhone 4 antenna issues. Since the release of Apple's iPhone 4, there have been a number of rumors in the trade press about the iPhone 4 antenna system not performing as well as the predecessor iPhone models. The antenna system was one of the new enhancements of the iPhone 4. Apple initially claimed it was a software problem. In certain press articles, ATT's network was given some of the blame for the problem. On 7/15, Consumer's Report published a report on the iPhone 4, documenting the actual problem with the antenna (the actual antenna was exposed to hand contact. That hand contact would cause loss of signal reception). Because of this problem, Consumer Reports would not give its approval to the iPhone 4. Since this announcement, Apple has acknowledged the problem and provided a short term solution to it.
