Unwired secures $15M for mobile WiMax, regional expansion

Unwired today secured an A$15 million stand by equity facility with US-based investment fund Cornell Capital Partners. Mitsui & Co will now commit another $5 million to
Unwired under the agreement reached last year, meeting the commitment to Intel to raise at least A$23 million to expand its business and to assist with its transition to mobile WiMAX. “With these funding facilities in place the Company is ready for any regional network build under its AUSalliance agreement and network transition to mobile WiMAX,” said Unwired’s CEO David Spence.

NextG wireless network gets IP partner

With launch of Telstra's new $1.5 billion Next IP network designed to work in conjunction with the wireless capabilities of its NextG network, Sol Trijulio has lauded the proposition that Australia now has a "network to eliminate Australia's business constraints of time, distance and devices".

Cisco gives Telstra VoIP "Telepresence"

Tied to the unveiling of a AU$1.5 billion Internet Protocol (IP) network called "Telstra Next IP", Sol Trijulio has announced the deployment of four Cisco TelePresence Meeting systems in its Sydney and Melbourne offices that simulate a regular meeting environment for a virtual table of 12 attendees.

Telstra puts bush on the line over Optus "favouritism"

Tesltra has made it clear to the Federal Government that it should be relinquished from regulations forcing it to provide internet and data services in regional areas if the $600 million Broadband Connect funding is awarded to Optus, in its joint venture with Elders and other smaller players.

NAB extends Telstra tenure without tender

Telstra will continue to provide NAB's telephony and IP solutions for another five years under a $600 million deal that puts the incumbent's NextG network to good use by migrating 1000 of NAB's mobile bankers off Telstra's soon-to-be-canned CDMA network and rolling-out of a new fleet of ATMs with wireless broadband capabilities.

Handsets hinder Next G

Telstra dealers have been experiencing so many customer complaints about Telstra's own-brand Next G phone from Chinese vendor ZTE, that some stores have stopped trying to promote them, despite the lack of available handsets from Nokia and Sony Ericsson.

Telecom extends $10TXT to 2010

Telecom NZ is extending its popular $10TXT until March 2010, meaning that customers will be sending up to 500 text messages each month to any mobile in New Zealand and paying no more than $10 for some time to come.

Tauranga trouble spills over to 029 deal

Fresh from the acrimonious split from the $50 million Tauranga Unplugged initiative, Vodafone has reportedly given TelstraClear notice it won't renew a long-standing arrangement under which TelstraClear has resold Vodafone's mobile service to more than 30,000 high-end subscribers using an 029 prefix.

Telecom will introduce at least four new WorldMode handsets that operate on GSM and CDMA networks as a way to effectively extend its coverage to more than 180 countries, initially to support voice and texting services, and then for mobile data before the end of 2007.
