Court halves compo claim due to mobile use

As a precedent for other worker compensation claims, the New South Wales Court of Appeal has halved the original entitlement for a woman who has found to be looking down scrolling through her mobile phone when she hit her head on a steel cage at Chatswood bus interchange.
Vodafone buoyed by 6% subscriber increase and more direct revenue

Results for the end of Vodafone's financial year on March 31 demonstrate that its customer base had increased from 3.515 million to 3.675 million which a 6 per cent increase on the back of a popular range of handsets and high-value capped plans. Added to this has been an increase in overall service revenue which grew 13.7 per cent from customers buying more minutes of voice usage, more messaging services, and more mobile email and mobile broadband data services.

OLPC tests wireless range in Australian outback

The One Laptop Per Child program has successfully tested pre-draft 802.11s technology to a range of 2 kilometres in remote areas of the Australian outback that represent the topography common to places where the program is expected to reach with no infrastructure and no access points.

With the statute of limitations due to expire, special purpose liquidator Paul Weston has thrown the last legal lifeline for shareholders in lodging a statement of claim for the $132 million investment former One.Tel directors James Packer and Lachlan Murdoch reneged on underwriting just days from the eventual collapse of the telco on May 29, 2001.

There are indications that six companies will be able to bid for wireless spectrum now that the government has decided to auction allocations in the 2.3GHz and 2.5GHz bands together in December.

NZ Communications refuses to comment on Vodafone offer

While the details of Vodafone's offer to the Commerce Commission has been met with steely silence by NZ Communications, analysts such as Paul Budde have been more forthright in calling the proposal "empty" for excluding Telecom from roaming and saying the charges are too high to help NZ Communications' business case.
Wimax spectrum auction delay due to Woosh

The reason for the delay to the proposed re-auction of rights to 2.3GHz spectrum beyond 2010 is reportedly due to a threat by Woosh Wireless to initiate a judicial review of the auctioning process in order to defend rights it has accumulated in about a third of 100MHz of spectrum in the 2.3GHz band until 2010.
