According to the New South Wales government it is in the final stages of evaluating 15 proposals for the building of a Wi-Fi network that will deliver free wireless broadband network access across the Sydney CBD and North Sydney, Paramatta, Penrith, Liverpool, Newcastle, Wollongong and Gosford.

After three unsuccessful years of trying to replicate the popularity of the Japanese i-mode service in Australia Telstra is acting on its right to terminate its partner agreement with NTT DoCoMo for failing to reach subscriber targets with less than 60,000 users now expected to be migrated to Next G.
