Enhances quality of live audio-visual delivery in mobile applications.
Mobile World Congress, Barcelona, Spain - February 11th, 2008 - Vidiator and weComm will partner to provide live encoding within rich media applications across a broad range of mobile devices, it was announced today.
The first forthcoming customer deployment is for a mobile sports service that allows subscribers to listen to real-time conversations that are captured between sportsmen at live events. Subscribers are able to select and rapidly switch between several audio channels from different teams in addition to accessing a wealth of live news, information and statistics, all within a branded mobile application.
The Vidiator Xenon Live Encoder offers content providers and subscribers the highest quality multimedia encoding for mobile devices. It is fully compliant with all applicable international standards, allowing for real-time conversion of all current analog or digital audio and video signals.
weComm's mobile application platform utilizes a thin client that integrates with handset features and delivers advanced user interfaces with faster, richer and more interactive experiences than are traditionally experienced with wireless WAP and browser-based solutions. It's server-based platform delivers on-demand applications for interactive mobile TV/video, rich-media infotainment portals and sports services that include offline use, pushed content and streaming media, transaction integrity, content upload, messaging, and built-in quality of service over variable wireless networks.
"Vidiator's fine pedigree and history of delivering live encoding for mobile devices means they are a natural partner for us to provide an integrated mobile solution that combines the best live encoded media within the richest user experience available across a broad range of devices. This partnership provides us the perfect platform to offer high quality rich media services to the market, and we look forward to working with Vidiator on future customer engagements." said Ian Meakin, VP Marketing & Alliances, weComm.
Capable of encoding media clips into 3GPP and 3GPP2-standard formats for compatibility with all standards-compliant mobile handsets, Xenon Encoders have been selected by major operators around the world for their high quality and optimized encoding algorithms. Xenon Encoders provide superior encoding required by any WAP- or Web-based content aggregator or provider that wants to distribute mobile content.
Vidiator will provide weComm with a hosted service from its Milan center, that also provides encoding, streaming, download and content management services to rich media owners and operators. Combined, the services enable rapid and cost-effective launch of 3G multimedia applications.
"We expect that this will be the first of many joint projects with weComm. There is a great degree of synergy between weComm's handset client and Vidiator's encoding platform for the delivery of 3G mobile multimedia services for cutting edge services on mobile," said Connie Wong, Vidiator CEO.
