Telstra has welcomed the decision of the Rudd government to scrap the OPEL tender with group managing director Geoff Booth saying it was a "commonsense decision" because the OPEL plan failed to meet the fundamental requirements of the funding and wouldn't have increased the availability of broadband access in rural and remote Australia.
